Uasin Gishu Governor mourns death of Moi University Chief Librarian

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim has expressed deep sorrow following the passing of renowned scholar and former Moi University chief librarian, Dr Tirong Kimaiyo Arap Tanui.

In a heartfelt condolence message, Governor Bii described Dr Tanui as a distinguished academician whose contribution to higher education and mentorship left an indelible mark not only at Moi University but across the country.

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of my mentor and dear friend, Dr Tirong Kimaiyo Arap Tanui. He faithfully served as the Chief Librarian at Moi University and played a key role in my early professional journey by welcoming me into the library department many years ago,” the governor said.

Bii hailed the late Dr Tanui as a man of immense knowledge, humility, and unwavering commitment to education.

He noted that the late librarian’s dedication to nurturing young professionals and supporting academic excellence shaped countless careers and strengthened the university’s intellectual foundation.

“Dr Tanui’s dedication to the academic community and the many lives he guided leaves a lasting legacy. His mentorship and counsel were invaluable to many of us who had the privilege of working under his leadership,” he added.

The governor extended his condolences to the bereaved family, led by his wife, Mary Tanui, and their children, and prayed for strength and comfort during this difficult period.

“As a county, we stand with the family, friends, and the entire Moi University fraternity in mourning this great loss. May the Almighty grant them peace and fortitude as they come to terms with his departure,” Governor Bii said.

Dr Tanui is remembered as a pillar in university library services, having steered the growth and modernisation of academic resources during his tenure.

His passing marks the end of an era for many within the academic and professional circles who benefited from his wisdom and guidance.
