Kisumu County vocational training centres yesterday, March 31, 2026 hold their third joint graduation ceremony at the Rotary Vocational Training Centre.
The ceremony which brought together 3,165 graduands, including 1,557 males and 1,608 females, who graduated in various courses was presided over by Kisumu County Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o.
Speaking during the ceremony, Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o congratulated the graduands for resilient and hardwork, noting their skills will propel them to greater heights.

“Today marks a defining moment — most profoundly in the lives of our graduands, their families, and all those who have supported their journey. Yet it is also a moment of collective pride for us as a County Government.”
He emphasised that technical and vocational training is central, not peripheral, to the County’s development agenda.
“The true wealth of a society does not reside solely in its infrastructure or natural resources, but fundamentally in the knowledge, skills, and innovative capacity of its people,” he noted.

“It is this understanding that continues to guide our strategic investment in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), a central pillar of our development architecture, and a key commitment of my administration.”
The County has backed this commitment with significant financial and human capital investments. In the current financial year alone, Ksh 25 million has been allocated for the procurement of training equipment, while Ksh 125.5 million has been set aside in capitation to enhance access and retention.
Twenty-five trainers were recruited in the previous financial year, and another 25 are expected this year. As Governor Nyong’o put it, “These are not mere expenditures — they are investments in human capital, which remains the most strategic asset of any progressive society.”
Graduates have been rigorously assessed and certified by reputable national institutions including the National Industrial Training Authority, the Kenya National Examinations Council, and the TVET Curriculum Development, Assessment and Certification Council.
Governor Nyong’o highlighted Kisumu County’s forward-looking approach in adapting to global trends.
“We are aligning our systems with emerging global trends including Competency-Based Education and Training, recognition of prior learning, digital and innovation skills, including ICT and automation, as well as green skills and climate-smart technologies,” he said.
He added that strengthening industry linkages and embracing dual training models ensures graduates remain competitive in a dynamic global economy.
