Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has announced an impending recruitment drive targeting Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers and Vocational Training Centre (VTC) instructors, reaffirming the county’s commitment to strengthening foundational learning and technical skills development.
Speaking at ACK Chebukube Secondary School in Cheptais, Mt. Elgon, Lusaka said the initiative is part of a broader strategy to invest in human capital and empower youth through education and vocational training.
“As a county, we are committed to investing in our human capital. The recruitment of ECDE teachers and vocational instructors is not optional; it is our constitutional responsibility and a key pillar in empowering our youth,” he said.

The governor emphasized that devolved units play a critical role in early childhood education and skills training, noting that strengthening these sectors would enhance self-reliance among young people while addressing unemployment challenges.
During the visit, Lusaka also announced plans for a major water connectivity project at the school, aimed at addressing persistent water shortages. The project is expected to improve access to clean and reliable water for students while also benefiting the surrounding community.
He noted that improved water infrastructure would significantly enhance the learning environment and promote the health and well-being of both learners and residents.
The announcement comes amid increased efforts by county governments to scale up investments in education and infrastructure as part of long-term socio-economic development plans.
