Kenya’s Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has released a new advisory to educators ahead of planned mass transfers set for April 2026, which will be conducted through a digital system aimed at enhancing transparency and fairness in staff deployment.

The upcoming exercise will be carried out using the Teachers Transfer Online System, a platform that replaces the traditional manual procedures and enables teachers to submit transfer requests electronically. The commission notes that the new system is intended to streamline processes, reduce bureaucracy, and promote a more balanced distribution of teachers across institutions.

Through this system, schools identified with excess teaching staff will have some of their teachers redeployed to institutions experiencing shortages. The decisions will be guided by data earlier collected from school heads. Teachers wishing to move to new stations will be required to apply through the online portal, which automatically identifies and matches possible transfer swap opportunities.

Teachers will still have the option to either accept or decline transfer offers generated by the system. Additionally, they are allowed to submit up to two applications, each remaining valid for 90 days. In cases where no suitable match is identified within that period, the system may generate a transfer outcome letter.

This digital approach marks a significant shift from the previous system that depended on manual applications and approvals at local administrative levels. The commission has urged all teachers, including those who are de-localised or seeking postings closer to home, to utilise the platform before the April transfer exercise begins.

TSC continues to oversee teacher recruitment, deployment, and transfers in line with its mandate under the Teachers Service Commission Act, ensuring staffing decisions meet the country’s education needs.
