A parent who physically assaulted a deputy principal at Nkubu Boys Secondary School has issued a public apology following widespread condemnation from education stakeholders.

The incident, which sparked outrage among teachers and the wider community, occurred after the deputy principal suspended the parent’s son for disciplinary reasons. Initial reports indicated that the parent stormed the school and attacked the administrator after the student was suspended.

However, new details indicate that the parent was called to the school after his son was allegedly sent home for stealing a mattress from the institution.

In a written apology circulated locally, the parent expressed regret over his actions and acknowledged that the assault was wrong.

“I deeply regret my conduct and the embarrassment it has caused to the school, my family, and the entire Nkubu community,” the parent stated. “My reaction was emotional and misguided.”

Parent Apology Comes Amid Union Pressure

The apology comes days after the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) condemned the assault and issued a 72-hour ultimatum demanding swift police action.

“When a teacher is attacked, it sends a dangerous message to students,” said an education analyst based in Meru. “Respect for institutions begins with how adults model conflict resolution.”

Authorities are yet to confirm whether legal proceedings will continue despite the apology. Meanwhile, stakeholders have called for calm and reaffirmed the importance of safeguarding educators.
