Fans ready for thrill as 2026 school Rugby season set to kick off in style across counties

The 2026 school rugby season is set to kick off in style, with tournaments confirmed across multiple counties, promising fans and schools a month of high-stakes action and emerging talent.

Matches will take place in Nairobi, Vihiga, Kitui, and Makueni counties with teams preparing for intense competition as preparations get underway.

The Aligned Heat Pools

In Nairobi, action will begin at Lenana School on March 5, 2026, where six boys’ pools are set to deliver thrilling encounters. Pool A features Upper Hill, Dagoretti Mixed, and Highway, while Pool B has Nairobi School, MFA, and Muhuri Muchiru, with defending champions expected to make a strong impression. Pool C brings together Dagoretti High, Hospital Hill, and Ushirika, while hosts Lenana School will face Garden Estate and Kangemi in Pool D, with home advantage likely to play a key role. Pool E matches Ofafa, Aquinas, and OLOF, while Pool F promises fireworks as Jamhuri, Strathmore School, Lang’ata, and Mwiki vie for knockout stage places.

The girls’ tournament will feature two pools, with Saint Clare Nembu Girls, Karen C Girls, Kenya High, and Buru Buru Girls in Pool A, and Mbagathi Girls, Garden Estate, State House Girls, and Our Lady of Fatima Secondary School in Pool B. Officials expect fast-paced matches and competitive rugby as schools battle for regional supremacy.

In Vihiga County, the Term One secondary school rugby games have also been confirmed. Pool A will see Chavakali Boys, Vihiga High School, Ebusiloli, Nyang’ori Boys, and Ebubayi compete, while Pool B features Senende Boys, Ekwanda, Esalwa, Mbale Boys, and Kegoye High School. County officials emphasized that the tournament aims to strengthen grassroots rugby and provide young athletes with a platform to showcase their skills.

The Kitui County Rugby Fifteens draft has been released, with matches starting  March 7, 2026. Pool A includes Katulani, Kitui West, Migwani, and Kisasi, Pool B features Lower Taita, Mutomo, and Matindani, Pool C brings together Kitui Central, Mwingi Central, and Kyuso, and Pool D has Nzambani, Mwingi East, and Ikutha. Schools across the county are preparing rigorously to claim early dominance.

Makueni County has also announced its Rugby Fifteens pools, with games set to kick off next week. Pool A features Mbooni Boys, Kilungu Boys, Kiongwani Boys, Misuni Secondary, and Kisayani Boys, while Pool B sees Kitondo Boys, Kikumini Boys, Makueni Boys, Mavindini Boys, and Makindu Boys compete. Officials noted the tournament will help spot emerging talent and strengthen competitive rugby at the county level.

With tournaments taking place almost simultaneously across Nairobi, Vihiga, Kitui, and Makueni; March 2026 promises a festival of school rugby, packed with high-intensity matches, standout performances, and the emergence of the next generation of rugby stars. Coaches and players are finalizing preparations; while fans are ready to witness the excitement unfold across the counties.
