The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has rolled out a nationwide exercise requiring all senior secondary schools to nominate a teacher who will serve as the institution’s Kenya Education Management Information System (KEMIS) Champion.
In a communication circulated through Sub-County Directors, the commission said the move is aimed at strengthening the implementation of KEMIS and enhancing data-driven management in schools.
According to TSC, the nominated teacher must be ICT competent and comfortable using digital platforms, as the role involves managing and updating institutional data within the national system.
The Commission further emphasized that the selected teacher must demonstrate reliability and high integrity, particularly in handling sensitive school data.
In addition, nominees must be available to undergo official KEMIS Champion training and show clear commitment to supporting evidence-based decision-making at the school level.

Education officials say the introduction of KEMIS champions is part of broader reforms designed to improve accuracy, accountability and efficiency in school data management across the country.
By designating a trained focal person in every senior school, TSC expects to streamline reporting processes and ensure timely submission of institutional information.
Schools have been directed to submit the details of their nominated teachers through an official online portal, with the deadline set for Friday, February 27, 2026.
The national mobilization underscores the Commission’s push to fully operationalize KEMIS as a central pillar in education planning, monitoring, and policy implementation.
