Rodgers Limpaso has unseated incumbent Willy Korir to become the new Executive Secretary of the Transmara Branch of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) following a closely contested election.
Limpaso secured 545 votes to clinch the seat, beating Korir who garnered 330 votes. Charles Milgo finished second with 378 votes.
The results marked a significant leadership change in the branch, ending Korir’s tenure and ushering in a new administration within KNUT.
Limpaso Pledges Unity After KNUT Victory
Speaking after being declared the winner, Limpaso described the campaign as demanding but thanked teachers for their confidence in him.
“It has not been easy. I thank all the teachers for their trust. Now we must join hands because the work begins immediately. Unity is strength,” Limpaso said.
He pledged to work closely with the national office to champion teachers’ rights and strengthen KNUT at the branch level.
James Leparan was elected as the new branch chairman. He thanked God for guiding him through the journey and expressed appreciation to members for entrusting him with leadership.
“I will serve all teachers without discrimination,” Leparan said.
National KNUT Leaders Call for Membership Growth
KNUT National Chairman Patrick Karinga, who witnessed the elections, congratulated the winners and urged them to address pressing issues affecting teachers, including concerns around agency fee payers.
Karinga called on the new leadership to encourage teachers under the agency fee arrangement to become full union members so they can enjoy all privileges, including the right to participate in KNUT elections.

He said the officials elected have the energy and mandate to steer the branch forward and effectively represent teachers’ interests.
