Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), West Pokot Assistant Executive Secretary Mathew Merimuk, has encouraged Secondary School students to participate in co-curricular activities to nurture their talents actively.
Speaking at Chepkno Mixed Day Secondary School in Pokot South Sub-county during the Sub-County competition, the unionist said it is through active participation in co-curricular activities that students’ talents can be identified.
Merimuk said many Kenyans have been earning a living through their talents, enabling them to live better than even employed people.
He urged the Ministry of Education (MoE) and other stakeholders in sports to identify the best students in various co-curricular activities and provide them with an avenue to join academies where they can be linked with specific people in the same field at the National level.
“We should link the best talented students in co-curricular activities with academies where their talent can be polished and make them shine in Kenya and the world in various fields,” said Meriuk.
He appreciates teachers and coaches who are key pillars in nurturing students’ talents at the school level.
