North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko has denied allegations of unfair allocation of education bursary funds from his National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) office.

He stated that his office allocated Sh40 million to be distributed proportionally to all applicants and assured that the funds would be disbursed to their respective university accounts within two weeks.

Nyamoko was responding to accusations of la ack of transparency and accountability in his NG-CDF office. He also addressed questions about the status of Nyamira University, accusing Kitutu Masaba MP Clive Gisairo of spreading false information about the stalled construction of the project. Gisairo had claimed that only tractors were parked at the site, indicating no progress.

However, Nyamoko refuted these claims, stating that President Ruto allocated Sh3 billion for the university’s continued construction. He assured residents that the university would admit its first cohort of students by September, offering six courses. The MP emphasised that the university’s completion would bring benefits, including employment opportunities, a market for local farm produce, and improved road networks.

Nyamira University is expected to boost education, ICT, and local economic growth in the region. The university plans to offer four initial courses: Agriculture, Education, ICT, and Business. This project is part of President William Ruto’s commitment to expanding access to higher education.

The construction of Nyamira University College is underway at Kiabonyoru, with the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) overseeing the project. The institution is expected to admit its first cohort of students in September 2026, offering six courses.

The university will have schools of Education and Human Resource Development, Agriculture and Natural Resources Management, Business and Economics, and Information Science and Technology.

The establishment of Nyamira University is anticipated to have numerous benefits. It will create employment opportunities for local residents, stimulate the local economy through increased demand for goods and services, provide residents with access to quality education, and foster research, innovation, and cultural exchange.
