A chaotic scene unfolded yesterday at a funeral at Rogongo village in Nyacheki Ward, Kisii County when Maseno University students staged theatre of the absurd as they mourned one of their own.
The trouble began when a drunken student defied the queue and seized the microphone sparking a heated exchange with the Master of Ceremony, which quickly escalated into a mayhem sending mourners running for cover.
The incident drew widespread condemnation from speakers at the funeral who urged students to show respect and decorum when attending funerals. Elder Joakim criticised the students’ behaviour , saying that it was unethical to cause chaos at a solemn occasion like a burial.

“University students especially law students are ought to conduct themselves with decorum even when they are under pressure because their profession calls for social decency.” He said.
Mourners eulogized the late Joseph Kaiser Oganda as a respectful and obedient individual who grew up in the village with respect and excelled in his primary and secondary studies that enabled him to join Maseno University to study law.
