The County Government of Bomet has launched an ambitious initiative to construct 50 new ECDE classrooms across its 25 wards in the current financial year.
The programme officially kicked off with the groundbreaking ceremony for a modern classroom at Tirgaga ECDE Centre, located within Tirgaga Comprehensive School.
The event was presided over by the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, Agnes Ngeno, on Wednesday, February 18, 2025.
Under the rollout plan, each of the twenty-five wards in Bomet will receive a new state-of-the-art ECDE classroom during the 2025/2026 fiscal year.
Every facility will also be equipped with a toilet, a water tank, and appropriate classroom furniture.

“This initiative is aimed at strengthening ECDE infrastructure, which currently stands at slightly over 400 classrooms out of the more than 1,200 ECDE centres spread across the 25 wards”, remarked Ng’eno.
This means that existing classroom capacity currently serves only about 50 per cent of ECDE centres in the county, highlighting the urgent need for expansion.
The initiative reflects the county government’s continued commitment, under the leadership of Governor Prof. Hillary Barchok, to broaden access to quality early childhood education and ensure a conducive learning environment for young learners.
The ceremony was also attended by the area MCA, Hon. Josphat Kipkirui (Singorwet Ward), and the Ward Education Coordinator, Madam Margret.
