Turkana University College has started programmes in oil and gas to meet the country’s demand following oil discoveries in Turkana County.
Economics in Oil and Gas is a course that is not offered in any higher learning institution but will be offered in Turkana making it the first and unique College in Kenya.
The University which is the first public University in Turkana County has the highest number of foreign students from Uganda, South Sudan, Indonesia and even Tanzania.
During its first intake, the university admitted over 150 students from outside Turkana with the aim of attracting and making more students to come to Turkana and enroll in various courses.
Speaking during the orientation programme of first years, the Principal of the Institution Egara Kabaji said the institution shall offer unique practical courses like Maritime and Economics of Oil and Gas.
