Sh200m for bursary fund launched

West Pokot County has launched the first phase of the bursary kitty worth Sh200 million to help bright needy students.
The bursaries will cater for 21,000 Form Two, Three and Four students studying within and outside the county.
Area Governor Prof John Lonyangapuo disclosed that he aims at changing the narrative of the county being marginalised by uplifting education through supporting needy learners.
“We shall continue supporting bright and needy students from the county to scale up their education until literacy levels in this region goes up,” asserted Lonyangapuo.
The county boss challenged the national government to liaise with county governments to boost the education sector.
“We want the national government to work hand in hand with the county government to promote education in the area,” he said.
Lonyangapuo advised the beneficiaries of the bursaries to take advantage of the program to prosper by advancing to greater heights.
“We want the beneficiaries to work hard so that they can uplift the economy of the region in future adding that the county lagged behind in development in the past due to lack of professionals,” he said.
“We shall soon add some more money for students in tertiary colleges, universities and vocational institutes”, he said.
