KCA Varsity trains teachers on school counseling skills

The KCA University recently hosted a two-day workshop for teachers, school counselors, counseling psychologists, university students, and leaders in the community, entitled “Helping Skills for Educators and Counselors.
The workshop featured a team of world renowned counselors Dr. Kathryn MacCluskie, Dr. Dakota King-White and Dr. Stacey Diane A. Litam.
Also providing training were prominent counseling graduate students from Cleveland State University; Mr. Eric King, Ms. Margaret Hess, and Ms. Michelle Mate, who specialize in areas including school counseling and community mental health counseling.
These individuals make up the CSU/KCA Helpers Without Borders Initiatives, that also includes professional photographer David Paul and Civil Engineer Anthony Tintelnot.
According to Dr. MacCluskie, the purpose of the seminar was, “to empower members of the Nairobi community to effectively help children and adults who may be struggling.”
The “Helping Skills for Educators and Counselors” workshop provided practical information about important topics relevant to the community of Nairobi including crisis management training, how to identify and screen for suicide, and active listening skills.
The panel presenters were joined by Dr. Mwenda Ntaranguui, the CEO of the Kenyan Commission for University Education, Dr. Noah Midamba, Vice Chancellor of KCA, and Dr. Joshua Bagaka, DVC of KCA all of whom offered closing words to attendees, prior to distributing Certificates of Completion.
