The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced a major training programme targeting college tutors who will assess Teacher Education programmes in April 2026.
The official notice, written and signed by Dr David Njeng’ere, Chief Executive Officer of KNEC, outlines preparations for the marking of Diploma in Secondary Teacher Education (DSTE), Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE), Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE), and DTE PP assessments.
“The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) will train College tutors for marking of Teacher Education assessments and assessment of practicum in April 2026,” the CEO states in the signed communication.
Unlike the school-level examiner training, this programme carries a higher fee.
“The training fee is Ten Thousand Five Hundred shillings (Kshs. 10,500.00) and will ONLY be made by the shortlisted applicants who will be notified on how to make the payment through a text message (SMS) and via the application portal,” the notice clarifies.
Dr Njeng’ere explains that the training model mirrors the blended structure adopted for other assessments.
“The training will be a blend of online and residential training,” he notes, adding that, “Access to the online training materials, dates and venue for the residential training will be communicated to the shortlisted trainees at a later date.”
The Council also streamlines participation for experienced assessors.

“Tutors who are already trained as DSTE, DPTE or DECTE assessors and are in the KNEC database of examiners need not apply,” the document clearly states.
Eligibility standards remain firm and uncompromising. Applicants “Must be a practising tutor/lecturer in the relevant subject areas at the level of assessment in a Teacher Training College, University or TVET institution,” and “Must be registered and/or employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).”
They must also “Have a minimum Teaching experience of two (2) years,” and “Must NOT be on interdiction or any other form of disciplinary action by his/her Head of Institution.”
The age ceiling for this category is slightly higher. Candidates “Must be below 55 years of age,” according to the signed notice.
The CEO reiterates that applications must be submitted digitally.
“Access the KNEC examiners’ portal using the link http://examinersapp.knec.ac.ke,” the notice directs.
Those without accounts are told to create one and upload all required documents before submitting applications.
“The training slots are limited and only qualified tutors who have presented all the required documents will be shortlisted on a first-come, first-served basis.”
