Malava principals demand urgent infrastructure boost to improve KCSE performance

Principals in Malava Constituency have urged the Ministry of Education (MoE) to prioritise infrastructure development in schools to boost KCSE  performance.

Led by Shamberere Boys Senior School principal Laban Sikolia, who was representing Kabras South, he said the area has poor roads connecting to schools, adding that during exam period, roads are impassable.

Sikolia was speaking during the principals’ consultative meeting, hosted by area Member of Parliament (MP) David Ndakwa, at the Malava NG CDF offices.

He urged MP Ndakwa to expedite the expansion and rehabilitation of roads to facilitate easy access to schools.

The principal’s engagement meeting aimed to establish a framework to improve educational standards and facilitate the transition to Competency-Based Education (CBE).

He appealed for credible facilities for schools to perform better in the KCSE exams.

Kabras South is facing more challenges in education. The principal called for support in the Shikutse area, which is an entity in the KCSE exams, and called upon the administration to deploy an education officer and urged the government to bring services closer.

His counterpart from Mayanji Senior School in Kabras Central echoed the sentiments, saying they are hampered by several factors, most importantly, infrastructure development.

“You get to a school with a population of 700 students occupying 2 hectares of land,” he decried.

MP Ndakwa, in his remarks, urged principals to submit a written, structured engagement so he can get to know them better, as it’s not just about engaging them at the event but also for future reference.

The MP’s main resolution, arising from concerns raised by principals, was a commitment to holistically revamp senior school education across all departments.

He also pledged unwavering support for the construction of classrooms, labs, libraries, workshops, dormitories, and other sanitation facilities.
