Makueni ECM Education, ICT and Internship has called upon the government to put in place a mechanism to cushion parents, if at all they want 100 per cent transition.

Speaking at AIC Malivani Comprehensive School during the academic day, Japheth Mang’oka revealed that, as a county, they had been issuing bursaries in the past, but this year they did not, simply because of the pending court case regarding county bursaries.

“My humble call is that the government should realign the budgets in the bursary. I am sure this will also help in doing away with the ghost schools and students who have been in the news for some time now,” Mang’oka said.

Mang’oka encouraged parents to play their roles in their children’s upbringing.

Speaking at the same event was Makueni Sub-County Director of Education, Richard Ng’ang’a, who encouraged the administration to continue transforming the school, adding that a good learning environment also translates into good performance.

He called upon parents to support their children by adding value to their lives, which means providing education and building their confidence.

He encouraged men to fully play their role in their children’s lives and stop being watchmen in their families.

Makueni Constituency former MP Peter Maundu called for transparency in funding the education of vulnerable students.

On parenting, Maundu called on parents, especially fathers, to be present in their children’s upbringing, including visiting them at school to avoid future disappointments.

“It’s unfortunate that men, especially those below 50 years, have left every role to their wives; let me tell you, these children are learning a lot. Regardless of how busy you are, make time to be with your children. Paying school fees alone is not enough,” he said.

The school headteacher, Joshua Mutuse, noted that the school had 106 candidates, 82 of whom Exceeded Expectations and were admitted to the national school, while the others were placed in other good categories.

“Today we are here for academic day and Thanksgiving. Our candidates did so well. We are also dedicating the rest to them as they continue with their education. We appreciate every key stakeholder for their support,” Mutuse said.
