KICD: 93.89 percent of Grade 10 books printed, 70.41 percent distributed nationwide

The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) has reported substantial progress in the printing and nationwide distribution of Grade 10 course materials and literary texts to public Senior schools under the Competency-Based Education framework.

According to the official Grade 10 Printing and Distribution Status Report as of February 13, 2026, 21 publishers were contracted to print, package, and distribute the learning materials nationwide.

Out of 11,867,325 textbooks ordered nationally, 11,142,230 copies have already been printed, representing a 93.89 per cent completion rate in the printing phase.

Distribution efforts are also well underway, with 8,355,780 books delivered to schools so far. This translates to a 70.41 per cent national distribution rate.

KICD has assured stakeholders that deliveries remain ongoing in most counties and that all textbooks are expected to be in public senior schools by the end of this month.

Regional Distribution Progress

A regional breakdown of the distribution exercise shows varied progress across the country.

Nairobi Region leads with 86.71 percent distribution, followed closely by Central Region at 80.18 percent and Western Region at 79.77 percent. Nyanza Region has reached 75.40 percent.

Rift Valley Region stands at 67.46 percent, while Eastern Region has achieved 64.94 percent.

Coast Region reports 60.25 percent, and North Eastern Region currently records the lowest distribution level at 48.57 per cent.

The overall national average remains at 70.41 percent, with ongoing deliveries expected to narrow the remaining gap in the coming weeks.

Final Phase of Delivery

KICD maintains that logistical efforts have been intensified to ensure the timely completion of the exercise.

With printing nearly complete and distribution surpassing 70 percent, attention now shifts to the final phase of nationwide delivery.

The update comes amid heightened public interest in the Grade 10 rollout under the Competency-Based Education transition.

KICD has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all public senior schools receive the required learning materials in time to support effective teaching and learning.
