Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba today afternoon launched the 2026 examination and assessment candidates’ registration season at the offices of the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) in South C, Nairobi.

Speaking during the event, the CS said that the registration window is now open for learners scheduled to sit various national examinations and assessments later this year.

“I officially launched the 2026 examination and assessment candidates’ registration season at the KNEC offices in South C,”he said on his Facebook post.

He asked school heads to exercise diligence during the registration process to safeguard learners’ academic futures.

“Heads of Institution are under a duty to ensure that learners’ registration details are correctly captured, so that no learner is disenfranchised.”

The launch ceremony was also attended by the Chair of KNEC, Julius Nyabundi, and the KNEC Chief Executive Officer, David Njengere, among other education stakeholders.

In a statement shared on the Council’s official platforms, KNEC pointed out the scale of examinations it has managed in recent years and its projections for 2026.

Looking ahead, the Council expects a significant rise in candidate numbers in 2026, especially in secondary education assessments.

“For 2026, based on previous candidature trends and the anticipated upsurge of candidates enrolling for the KCSE examination, KNEC anticipates registering about 3,700,000 candidates.”
