School children in Kisii County were forced to spend night in chilling cold after their family home was destroyed by the strong winds caused by the ongoing heavy rains.

It is reported that the heavy rain mixed with wild wind rifted the rooftops of Janes Osani’s seven houses at Mokomoni village in Magenche Ward of Kenyenya Subcounty and left them with no alternative but to shelter under the banana grooves with their children.
Narrating the ordeal on Thursday, the stunned family said that the falling tree also smashed cupboards and boxes containing their children’s books and other learning materials that were soaked, dirtied and torn in the heavy rain and wind.
They are now appealing to well-wishers to help them through donation, so that they can go back to their normal life and their children back to school.

The calamity befell the family one week after the Kisii County weather man Evans Sese alerted residents over prevailing heavy from the beginning of this month until March.
He cautioned them against taking shelter under tall trees when it is raining in order to avoid being affected by lightening.
He asked residents to make use of the rain by harvesting it in water tanks to help them during the dry season and advised them to use the rainy time to prepare their farms for planting crops.
