The Meru Youth Service has announced positions for new recruits as the county government intensifies efforts to equip young people with practical skills, discipline and training aimed at promoting self-reliance and responsible citizenship among the youth.
Speaking at the Meru Youth Service offices in Meru town, Chief Executive Officer CPA Murangiri Edwin Mutuma said the program targets young people across Meru County and is designed to prepare them for meaningful participation in the economy through structured training and hands-on experience.
He said the recruitment exercise will begin on February 16.
Murangiri explained that the youth service focuses on skills development through a combination of training and placement in relevant institutions, where beneficiaries are exposed to practical work that enhances their employability and life skills.

“We support young people through training and mentorship. We later place them in institutions where they acquire practical skills that are important for their personal and professional development,” said Murangiri.
He noted that the program has been opened to youth from all parts of the county, adding that the initiative has received full support from Governor Mutuma M’Ethingia.
“The county leadership has put in place the necessary measures to ensure the program runs smoothly and reaches deserving beneficiaries.” Murangiri said
In addition, Murangiri said the program is expected to have a significant impact on young people by helping them become independent and responsible members of society, while also addressing challenges such as unemployment and lack of skills among the youth.
“The program targets youths aged between 18 and 35 years.”

Murangiri said applicants must hold a national identity card, have at least a KCPE certificate, be residents of Meru County and be of sound mind.
He explained that the requirements are meant to ensure participants are prepared for the nature of training offered by the youth service.
“This program targets young people aged between 18 and 35 years. Applicants must have a national identity card, a KCPE certificate, be residents of Meru County and be of sound mind,” he said.
Murangiri also clarified that persons with disabilities are eligible to apply, provided they are able to handle the paramilitary-style training that forms part of the program, saying that inclusivity remains a key consideration in the recruitment process.
On the application process, Murangiri said interested youths can download application forms from the Meru Youth Service website or collect physical copies from the service’s offices at the Consolidated Building in Meru town.
He added that the forms are also available at ward administrators’ offices, sub-county administrators’ offices and the governor’s office to ensure accessibility across the county.
Nonetheless, he said completed application forms will be received between February 16 and February 19.
Murangiri urged applicants to ensure the forms are correctly filled and accompanied by the required documents, including photocopies of their national identity card and KCPE certificate.
“When submitting the forms, applicants must attach photocopies of their national ID and KCPE certificate in the relevant sections. Collection centers will be provided,” said Murangiri.

Murangiri further outlined the selection process, saying recruitment will be conducted through an open balloting system aimed at ensuring transparency and fairness.
He explained that the process will involve a yes-or-no vote, with successful candidates selected on the spot.
About 20 youths are expected to be selected from each ward.
Meru Youth Service Administrator Kimaita Erick said the open balloting system is meant to build public confidence in the recruitment exercise.
He encouraged young people and community members to attend and observe the process.
“The open balloting system is transparent. We invite the youth and community members to witness the process so they can see that the selection is fair and credible,” Kimaita said.
