Kabuchai Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Majimbo Kalasinga has awarded bursaries worth Kshs 55 million to needy students in secondary schools, colleges, TVETs, and universities through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF).
Speaking at Musese NG-CDF offices in Kabuchai, the MP said the disbursement amounted to Kshs 30 million, adding to an earlier allocation of Kshs 25 million for learners in extra-county and national boarding schools outside the constituency.
Kalasinga emphasized that his office is determined to ensure no learner, particularly those in day schools, is sent home for lack of tuition fees. He noted that each student has been allocated Kshs 5,000, urging parents to contribute the remaining Kshs 3,000 to cover the full year’s fees.
The legislator reiterated his commitment to improving education standards through infrastructural development, including classrooms and science laboratories. He urged principals to avoid sending students home frequently over fees, warning that such disruptions negatively affect learning.

Kalasinga also revealed plans to convene a meeting with school principals and deputies to review the 2025 KCSE results, with the aim of identifying gaps and improving performance.
Beyond secondary schools, the MP announced that 3,984 students from middle-level colleges, TVET institutions, and universities in Kabuchai are earmarked to benefit from bursaries worth Kshs 20 million.
He further appealed to the Principal Secretary in the State Department of Basic Education, Julius Bitok, to fast-track the registration of Sikata Secondary School. Despite NG-CDF funds being used to purchase land, build classrooms and toilets, the school remains unregistered three years after its establishment, preventing the Teachers Service Commission from deploying teachers.
Among the beneficiary schools in the latest disbursement are Wabukhonyi Secondary School (Kshs 3.5 million), Nalondo Girls (Kshs 2.06 million), and Bwake Secondary School (Kshs 1.95 million).
Kalasinga said needy Grade 10 learners will begin receiving bursary forms in July during the 2026/27 financial year. He added that he has personally sponsored 100 students through full scholarships, already admitted to senior secondary schools both within Kabuchai and in other parts of the country.

The MP stressed the need for the Ministry of Education to streamline the timely disbursement of capitation funds to public schools, noting that principals are under pressure from suppliers due to mounting pending bills. He also urged the ministry to work closely with school heads to address cases of bullying among Grade 10 learners in senior schools.
Former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati and Chwele-Kabuchai Ward MCA Erick Wekesa, who attended the event, echoed calls for the Controller of Budget to allow Bungoma County to disburse ward bursaries through Members of County Assemblies. They argued that similar arrangements in counties such as Murang’a, Nandi, and Kakamega have expanded access to education for needy students.
