The County Government of Kisii has launched milk feeding programme for Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) pupils, relieving parents from food distress for their children.
The long awaited exercise was presided over by Governor Simba Arati who was accompanied by his deputy Elijah Obebo, Executive Secretary to the cabinet in charge of education Eric Miyienda among other leaders.
The governor assured parents that their children will get the milk without failure, saying that his government had put strategies in place for the milk’s constant supply.
“The milk feeding programme will start with nursery children and continue to upper primary next year. We are building enough factories that will process more milk from our farmers to feed our children.” He said.
The governor said this after laying a foundation stone at Kisii Agricultural Research Institute (KARI) which he said will be completed and be ready for use by the end of June this year.
He said his office will start circulating the milk to all 11 Sub with 697 schools that host more than 3000 ECDE pupils.

Arati said that the programme will create employment to 965 bodaboda riders who will be contacted to collect the milk from identified destinations and transport them to various schools three times per a week.
The governor further revealed that the construction of 11 factories had started in the county, to process bananas that will be converted into palatable bread to feed the nursery school pupils.
The Governor and his team also opened the ECDE smart flagship classroom at Riangabi Primary School in Nyaribari Chache Constituency.
He said that the classroom that is furnished with TV, enough sleeping space for the pupils, CCTV and child friendly learning floors is a model of more others of its kind to be constructed in each of the 45 wards in the county.
