Kiminini MP Kakai Bisau is scheduled to kick off the first phase of distributing bursaries in the constituency on 2nd February for the 2026 academic calendar under the new Competency-Based Education (CBE) system.
According to a timetable released by the constituency office, more than Ksh 20 million shillings in bursary funds will be disbursed to learners across six wards. The five-day exercise will begin with registration of beneficiaries before the public issuance of cheques to ensure transparency. The bursaries form part of the Sh110 million NG-CDF allocation for the 2025/2026 financial year, which also covers other development projects in the constituency.
The bursary kitty will support students from senior secondary schools, TVET institutions, colleges, and universities, targeting needy learners from the constituency’s estimated population of 200,000 residents. Applicants will be required to prove residency by producing national identification cards and other relevant documents to avoid duplication and ensure fairness.

The wards to benefit include Sikhendu, Weonia, Kiminini, Waitaluk, Hospital, and Sirende. Constituency coordinators emphasized that the programme is designed to prioritize genuine residents and deserving students.
Bisau’s initiative follows a separate bursary drive by the Hawkings Foundation, which recently supported more than 500 needy and bright students. Speaking at Top Station Secondary School, foundation founder Hawkings Kidiava underscored the importance of collaboration between public and private stakeholders in facilitating a smooth transition to senior secondary education. Kidiava, who is also vying for the Hospital Ward seat in next year’s General Election, pledged to supplement NG-CDF efforts by mobilizing additional resources.
The constituency is also set to benefit from expanded bursary support from the Trans Nzoia County Government, after President William Ruto directed that county administrations be allowed to manage bursary funds alongside the national government for more effective disbursement.

Since his election in 2022, Bisau has prioritized education by building new schools, rehabilitating existing ones, and improving infrastructure.
In a recent ranking of Trans Nzoia MPs on education support, Bisau came second to Endebess MP Dr Robert Pukose, while Saboti MP Caleb Amisi and Cherangany MP Patrick Simiyu followed in third and fourth place, respectively. Kwanza MP Ferdinand Wanyonyi ranked lowest, though Amisi was credited with crafting bursary guidelines that have become a benchmark nationally.
