Felix Omondi Otieno might be young to start blessing his elders, especially his teachers and fellow students, but for sure, the best he finds himself muttering is blessings for them.

Omondi took the bold step of travelling to his school of choice, Malava High School, after teachers from his junior school, Obwolo Comprehensive, in Kisumu East constituency, Kajulu Ward, donated fare for him.

His decision was attained after he started feeling that reporting time was running out, and his mother was in no position to secure fees and other necessities for him to join.

Also, his heart further sunk after his efforts to secure a scholarship from various organizations he attended flopped, leaving him in a catch-22 situation as time clicked away.

Her mother who is a small trader vendor selling eggs for Felix’s aunt on commission after realizing that her son might not make it to the school of choice started scouting around for the nearest local day school but Felix could no longer hear of it as his dream of becoming doctor could only be realized if he schooled at Malava high school in Kakamega North sub county.

Omondi, who arrived at the school on Friday last week, had nothing with him besides his grade 9 uniform and boldly asked to meet the Principal, whom he poured out his hopes that his fate was solemnly laid in his hands and he wanted nothing more than being given the opportunity to study.

Dumb folded and touched by an angel, the chief principal, Moses Moyi, admitted the boy who had excelled with (EE2) in grade 9 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) exams.

With no bedding and other necessities, the school through its staff came together and donated beddings and some learning materials, with the fellow students donating toiletries, and held a funds drive that raised cash to purchase more necessities need in the boarding section as the principal took upon himself to offer a full uniform set.

“As a school through teachers, we have opted to put our resources together to offset his school fees to enable him achieve his dream, and we are overwhelmed with the humane gesture our boys have expressed, stating that they were ready to accommodate him as he was one of their own”

Omondi, whom we spoke to, was full of life and hope with very heavenly utterances towards the management of Malava Boys for accepting to admit and accommodate him to pursue his dream and be able to also uplift his family, comprising of his twin brother and their firstborn, who are also languishing in abject poverty and also yet to join grade 10.

The learner reveals that his Father disappeared when he was in grade 7, and his deputy at Obwolo primary took over his fee payment, but later it stopped when he was transferred, but the management of the school retained him.

The chief principal Malava high school agrees that “ the boy received a letter from us but after some time I received a call from him stating that he was unable to raise fees and other necessities, I then advised him to seek assistance from guardians, private or individual sponsors including churches, and organization such as Elimu scholarship of which he went but only managed to be interviewed before he was somehow dropped leaving him with no option but again call me to informing me of the feedback and I still referred him to reach out to his Mca, and Mp for assistance but again nothing was forthcoming and with no option the boy decided to solicit for bus fare and travelled to school and on Friday afternoon he reported to my office with only his admission letter and grade 9 credentials.

“We thank God for the soft landing the boy has had and the willingness of the staff and fellow students to stand with him, and it is amazing that the boy is comfortably absorbed into the system and is ready to commence learning at his school of choice.” Moyi said.

The principal has two more learners of the same calibre who are yet to join, besides the presidential directive that has also seen an increase in admissions.

The principal is calling on all well-wishers, including the Kisumu East Member of Parliament (MP) Shakeel Shabir, where Omondi hails from, to come to his aid as the school has already admitted him
