A Grade One girl is among three people from one family who perished in a grisly road accident at Magena area on the Kisii – Kilgoris road on Saturday.
Witnesses reported that the child was the first to be hit by a speeding Probox vehicle as she attempted to cross the road. The car then veered off course, ramming into two women nearby, killing one instantly.
“I saw the car ran in high speed and within a short period heard a bang from the road and rushed there and found the three bodies lying there.” Said Teresiah Raiti.
The victims were leaving Nyambunwa SDA Church after attending Sabbath services when the accident occurred. Alarmed church members, drawn by cries from the roadside, alerted police officers from Magena Police Station. The victims were rushed to a private hospital in Magena town, where they were pronounced dead.

The deaths come barely a week after an expectant mother who was escorting her daughter to school by bodaboda met their death with the daughter and the bodaboda rider at Magena town after colliding head-on with a Nissan Matatu.
Residents have appealed to the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) to install speed bumps along the Kisii-Kilgoris Road at Magena to curb reckless driving and prevent further loss of life.
