The Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Migos Ogamba, officially flagged off the distribution of Grade 10 textbooks at English Press, Nairobi, on Thursday, 22nd January 2026, marking a major milestone in the Competency-Based Education (CBE) rollout
Speaking at the event, Dr. Ogamba emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring timely access to quality learning materials in public senior schools, noting that proper textbook availability is vital for effective teaching and learning as students transition to Senior School.
Prof. Charles Ong’ondo, CEO of the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), highlighted the institute’s role in coordinating curriculum implementation and working with publishers to ensure textbooks meet quality standards and reach schools on time.

A total of 11,867,325 textbooks were ordered, with 71.25% printed and 49.55% already distributed as of January 22, 2026. Counties including Nairobi, Kiambu, Kericho, Homabay, Embu, Meru, Murang’a, Kisumu, Kakamega, Laikipia, Nyandarua, Nakuru, Mombasa, Kwale, Kajiado, and Machakos have already received the books. Nationwide distribution is ongoing, with all textbooks expected in schools by the end of January.
CS Ogamba was accompanied by senior education stakeholders, including Prof. Ong’ondo, Kenya Publishers Association Chair Mr. Kiarie Kamau, Senior Deputy Director-Educational Media Madam Eunice Gachoka, Acting Senior Deputy Director-Corporate Services Dr. Solomon Gathuo, KICD staff, publishers, and other education partners.
