Kisii County Governor Simba Arati has announced plans to construct 45 flagship Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) classrooms before the end of the year. Speaking in Nyamache town, he said the new facilities will expand existing ECDE infrastructure and introduce modern amenities aimed at improving safety, learning, and child welfare.

The governor outlined features for the classrooms, including mounted televisions for instructional content, designated sleeping compartments to allow scheduled naps, and CCTV cameras to enhance security and monitor care practices. He added that pupils will receive milk three days a week, with surveillance intended to deter misuse of supplies. Arati said the new units will complement earlier‑built classrooms that lack these upgrades.

Addressing parents, Arati urged families to support maternal health and stable home environments, saying negative conditions during pregnancy can affect foetal development.

The governor noted that the county currently has about 68,000 pupils and encouraged eligible youth to consider starting families, joking that more children would “enjoy taking milk and learning in the new modern classrooms,” a remark that drew light moments from the audience.

Arati linked the breadth of ongoing projects to the county’s cooperation with the national administration, saying alignment with government priorities helps unlock development. He urged residents to continue supporting national initiatives, arguing that partnership accelerates service delivery and investment at the local level.
