Professionals from Bobasi Constituency, Kisii County have accused Kebirigo High School Chief Principal Clement Nyang’acha of promoting use of mother tongue at workplace and allegedly disregarding those using national languages.
Speaking to Education News at Nyamache, they accused him of referring to the working class as being Obochoni, (foolish) when they do not use their vernacular in their places of work.
The Professionals who were led by Charles Ogega, Jane Nyaboke and Moses Makori were reacting to section of the social media on Facebook purporting to persuade teachers, doctors and nurses to use mother tongue in their offices.
They accused Nyang’acha of hiding under religion and using his position as the principal of a senior school to undermine, intimidate and abuse other professionals in order to achieve his whimsical, unnamed objectives.
“At his level, the Principal ought to set an organization to champion the use of local language in a structured way but not heckling and abusing other professionals through social media.” Said Nyaboke.
The Professionals asked the Principal to apologize to the elite community for using abusive language like referring to them as bewitched and foolish people, a language they claimed he borrowed from a certain former Cabinet Secretary, who sometimes could get annoyed and ask people to stop “Obochoni” which translates to mean stupidly or ineptness.

While praising the principal for his zeal to promote education success in his career they advised him to guide his talk and social writing approaches with dignity that should embrace his social status as one of the great educators from the region.
But when reached for comment, Nyang’acha dismissed the claims and wondered where the claims were coming from.
“I don’t remember using the word ‘Obochoni’ in any of my comments either on WhatsApp or Facebook. Those complaining should explain where they got those allegations,” said the Principal.
He added that he is always very observant on his social media accounts, and doesn’t recall a time he accused any particular person in a negative way.
