Twenty students have been awarded Senior Secondary Scholarships valued at Sh50,000 per student per year for three years by the Finlays Trust, bringing the total investment to KSh3,000,000. The awards are exclusively targeted at dependents of employees of Browns Plantations Kenya Limited and Finlays Tea Extracts, Kenya, ensuring direct support to workers’ families.
Speaking at the ceremony, Browns Plantations Kenya Limited Chief Executive Officer Dushanth Ratwatte said the scholarships are designed to change “families, communities, and futures,” adding: “Through this scholarship, we are investing not just in individual students, but in entire communities. Opportunity starts here.” He warned that rising school fees risk locking out bright learners from humble backgrounds, noting that hard‑earned places in senior secondary school could vanish simply due to cost barriers.
The company confirmed the 20 Senior Secondary Scholarships cover the 2026–2028 academic cycle, guaranteeing continuity for deserving students without disruption. Each award is set at Sh50,000 per student annually over three years, cumulatively amounting to Sh3,000,000 for the cohort.

Established in 1989 under the 8‑4‑4 system—initially as the Secondary School Scholarship—the programme has supported 606 students to date, with Sh56.5 million invested.
Beyond senior secondary support, the company also runs Undergraduate and TVET scholarships that assist hundreds of students across Bomet and Kericho counties, broadening access to tertiary and technical training.
The scholarship programme is administered through a Community Trust co‑funded by Browns Plantations Kenya Limited (80%) and Finlays (20%), a structure designed to sustain long‑term educational support and accountability.
