Homa Bay County has posted impressive results in the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), with several schools recording strong performances that have drawn praise from education stakeholders.
Asumbi Girls High School, under the leadership of Principal Linet Pino, emerged top in the county after registering a mean grade of 9.78 (B+) and achieving a 100 per cent transition rate. The school presented 914 candidates, reaffirming its reputation as one of the region’s academic powerhouses.
Agoro Sare High School also stood out, recording a mean score of 9.392 (B plain). The school presented 602 candidates, cementing its place among the county’s best performers. Oriwo Boys High School followed closely with a mean score of 9.2256 (B plain), further underscoring the strength of Homa Bay’s leading institutions.
Mbita High School maintained its strong showing, posting a mean score of 9.264 to rank among the top schools in the county. However, Orero Boys High School, which has traditionally dominated the rankings, recorded a dip in performance with a mean grade of 8.865, marking a negative deviation compared to previous years.
Day schools also made notable strides, with Wikoteng’ Mixed Secondary School recording a mean grade of 7.265 (C+). The result was hailed as a sign of steady improvement and growing competitiveness among day schools in the county.

Education stakeholders have lauded the overall performance, describing it as a positive indicator of rising academic standards in Homa Bay.
They noted that the consistency of top schools such as Asumbi Girls, Agoro Sare, and Oriwo Boys, combined with the progress of day schools, reflects a broad‑based improvement in teaching and learning outcomes.
The 2025 KCSE results have positioned Homa Bay County as one of the regions to watch, with schools demonstrating resilience, competitiveness, and commitment to academic excellence.
