The Grade 10 placement system has resumed normal operations after experiencing temporary network congestion yesterday that disrupted access for parents and learners seeking placement results.

Parents, guardians and students can successfully check placement information via SMS by sending the learner’s Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) assessment number to 22263.

The cost is KSh 30 a message.

Junior Secondary School (JSS) pupils through the process are assigned to Senior schools based on their performance in the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA), learner preferences, and available school capacities.

The placement results were officially released on December 19, 2025.

KJSEA candidates will report to their respective Senior Schools on January 12, 2026, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba has announced.

The CS note that the placement exercise is ongoing and will conclude tomorrow, 20th December 2025.

According to the CS, the 1,130,459 learners being placed will join Senior Schools in line with the Competency Based Education (CBC) framework which uses learner performance in KJSEA to guide placement.

Placement decisions will consider both learner competencies and chosen pathways, which include Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Social Sciences, and Arts and Sports Science.

Data from the results shows that 59.09 per cent of learners demonstrated potential for STEM, 46.52 per cent for Social Sciences, and 48.73 per cent for Arts and Sports Science. Of the total candidates, 578,630 were male (51.19 per cent) and 551,829 female (48.81 per cent).

CS Ogamba said performance was reported using an eight-point scale, ranging from Exceeding Expectations 1 (Point 8) to Below Expectations 2 (Point 1), with 75 per cent of learners attaining Approaching Expectations and above, making them eligible for Senior School progression.

The CS also confirmed that the government will maintain capitation of KSh 22,244 per learner per year with no revision of boarding or other fees, to ensure a smooth transition from Junior to Senior School.
