Education stakeholders in Nakuru County have lauded the ongoing reforms in the education sector, saying they will help identify and nurture learners’ talents at an early age and promote specialisation.
Speaking in Keringet, education stakeholder Sally Kirui said the reforms are timely and will play a key role in shaping learners according to their abilities and interests.
“These reforms will ensure that children’s talents are identified and nurtured at a tender age, allowing them to specialise in areas where they perform best,” Kirui said.
She called on the county government to allocate additional funds to boost basic education, noting that adequate financing is critical to the success of the reforms.
“Education is the backbone of the country’s economic growth and should therefore be given the priority it deserves,” she added.
Kirui also urged parents to take responsibility during the ongoing festive season by closely monitoring and protecting their children to ensure they remain in school.

“No child should be allowed to drop out of school whatsoever. Parents must be vigilant, especially during this festive period,” she said.
Her sentiments were echoed by Jane Maina, who urged all stakeholders to fully support Competency-Based Education (CBE), noting that its success depends on collective effort.
“We need the support of parents, teachers and the community at large to make Competency-Based Education a success,” Maina said.
However, parents in the area expressed concern about the implementation of the new system, urging the government to explain how Competency-Based Education will be run clearly.
“We are still in the dark about how this system works. The government needs to provide clear guidance so that parents can understand and support their children effectively,” said one parent.
The stakeholders called for greater sensitisation and public engagement to address concerns and ensure the smooth implementation of the education reforms.
