Bungoma DEB and Christ the King Junior Schools have emerged among the top performers in Bungoma County following the release of the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) results by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migamba Migos on Thursday. The two institutions recorded strong outcomes that reaffirm their growing academic reputation in the region.
Speaking at Bungoma DEB School on Friday, headteacher Tobias Khisa said the school had achieved its best performance in recent years, attributing the success to teamwork and consistent support from teachers, parents, learners and local leaders. He noted that the collaborative approach had strengthened the school’s academic foundation and positioned it for even better results in future assessments.
Khisa explained that the KJSEA grading system places learners into four broad categories: Exceeding Expectations (EE), Meeting Expectations (ME), Approaching Expectations (AE) and Below Expectations (BE), with further sub‑divisions ranging from EE1 to BE2. The assessment is marked out of a maximum of 72 points.

According to the results, 20 candidates from Bungoma DEB attained the highest EE1 grade. Three learners scored 70 points, eight scored 69 points, and nine scored 68 points. An additional 186 candidates were placed in the EE2 category after scoring between 59 and 67 points, bringing the total number of learners in the Exceeding Expectations bracket to 206.
The school also registered 225 learners in the Meeting Expectations category, with 148 placed in ME1 and 77 in ME2. Fifty‑five candidates were graded under Approaching Expectations, including 46 in AE1 and nine in AE2. Notably, none of the 486 candidates presented by the school fell into the Below Expectations category.
“Our analysis shows that more than 75 per cent of our candidates scored above the Meeting Expectations level, which is a clear indicator of steady academic growth,” Khisa said.
Christ the King Junior School, Bungoma, also posted commendable results, with several learners recording strong scores. Among them was Banice Maryanne, who scored 69 points. Speaking at her Sinoko home, Maryanne said Mathematics and Integrated Science were her strongest subjects, crediting her performance to dedicated teachers and supportive parents. She expressed hope of pursuing the two subjects at senior secondary level and said Loreto Girls remains her preferred school.
