As the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) gears towards interns recruitment next week, a section of the teachers who are largely Arts based have threatened to go to court over what they describe as commission’s blatant discrimination in recruiting them.

“TSC has neglected us simply because we did arts subjects. It is only going for our science colleagues. For how long should we be mistreated for studying arts subject?”, asked a tearful joy mukindia from Tharaka Nithi.

A close look at the TSC’s scoring guide for the upcoming recruitment, science based teachers will have an absolute chance over their arts counterparts. A whopping 65 marks have been allocated for those who have two science combinations.

The guidelines awards 55 marks for any teacher who has mathematics combined with arts subject. Languages with any combination will be awarded 25 marks while arts combinations will earn a paltry 5 marks.

Already, the teachers have worked out their marks after obtaining the score guidelines from the social media, a situation that has made a number of them especially the arts based to deliberate on the next course of action. “Why should I waste time and go round borrowing fare when it is clear that the commission is segregating us?”, said Antony Injehu from Vihiga County upon being asked about his preparation for Monday’s verification exercise at the subcounty selected venue.

TSC is expected to verify documents of over 190,000 teachers across the country beginning Monday December 8, at various sub county selected venues.

Education News learnt that all the applicants were invited through short messages, a situation that is expected to be chaotic owing to huge numbers in some densely populated counties like Kiambu, Kakamega, Nakuru, Bungoma, Kericho and Nandi.

Education News wish the applicants the very best as they endeavor to enter the commission’s payroll through the internship mode.
