Bomet University College has taken a significant step toward securing its long-awaited Charter after hosting a comprehensive technical inspection of its ongoing development projects.
The review was conducted by the University Council and Management, led by council chair Prof. John Shiundu and Principal Prof. Charles Mutai, as part of intensified efforts to ensure the institution meets all requirements for full university accreditation.
The inspection focused on major infrastructure projects that are central to the university’s transformation from a constituent college into a fully chartered institution.
The delegation assessed academic blocks, laboratories, administrative buildings, and student facilities—key benchmarks that determine readiness for Charter award, which is expected before the end of the year.
Prof. Shiundu emphasized that the ongoing developments are not just routine projects but critical milestones in Bomet University College’s journey to full university status.
He called for speed, precision, and strict adherence to quality standards, noting that the Charter will elevate the institution’s national and regional standing.

“Achieving Charter is a historic moment for this university, and these projects are the backbone of that success,” he said.
Principal Prof. Mutai echoed this message, reaffirming management’s commitment to delivering an environment that meets the rigorous expectations of a fully-fledged university.
He noted that the new facilities will enhance research capacity, improve academic delivery, and provide a modern student experience—elements central to the Charter accreditation process.
During the visit, the team engaged contractors and technical experts to address any gaps that could hinder timely completion.
The Council commended the progress made and urged continued collaboration to meet the institution’s strategic timelines.
The exercise clearly reflected Bomet University College’s readiness and determination to attain full Charter, marking a decisive phase in its growth and its role as an emerging centre of higher education excellence in the South Rift.
Sources said that President William Ruto is expected to award the charter to the institution, which is a constituent college of Moi University, next month.
