Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has called on the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to confirm all serving interns into permanent and pensionable positions, noting that Parliament has already allocated funds for their absorption.
He emphasized that salaries for the interns should align with the relevant Service Remuneration Commission (SRC) scales to ensure fairness and consistency across the teaching profession.
Cherargei appealed to JSS intern teachers to be patient, assuring them that the government is actively addressing the matter.
He acknowledged receiving numerous messages from teachers seeking updates on their employment status and expressed understanding of their anxiety as their contracts near completion.
The senator noted that many teachers have shown dedication and commitment during their internship, and this should be recognized through timely absorption into permanent roles.
Speaking on the floor of the Senate, Cherargei emphasized that the one-year internship contract is sufficient for assessing teacher performance.
He called for legal frameworks to be established so that once interns complete the 12-month period, they are directly absorbed into permanent and pensionable positions without further delays.

Cherargei argued that this would not only secure the future of young teachers but also strengthen the education system by ensuring stability and continuity in schools.

He urged TSC to act without further delay to implement the absorption process, emphasizing that this is both a legal and moral responsibility.
