The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has taken decisive action against examiners whose schools were implicated in malpractice during the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.
The exam body is currently sending SMS notifications revoking marking invitations to the affected examiners.
This follows reports that some examiners had already received letters inviting them to the marking centres despite previous involvement in examination irregularities.
KNEC has clarified that those implicated will not be allowed to participate in the marking process, in a bid to safeguard the integrity of national examinations, emphasizing that the measure is part of its zero-tolerance policy on examination fraud and irregularities.
“These actions are necessary to ensure that the marking process remains credible and that the integrity of our national examinations is upheld,” a KNEC official said.
The council has also warned that any attempts to circumvent these restrictions will attract severe penalties, including permanent barring from future examination duties.

KNEC’s stringent measures reflect growing concerns about examination malpractices and the urgent need to protect the credibility of Kenya’s education system.
Education stakeholders have welcomed the decisive action, noting that it sends a strong message to schools, examiners, and candidates about the consequences of engaging in exam fraud.
Meanwhile, honest examiners and students continue to wait anxiously for the marking and release of results, hoping that strict enforcement will ensure fairness.
As the KCSE marking process proceeds, KNEC is expected to maintain close monitoring of all examiners and institutions to prevent further breaches, ensuring that Kenya’s national examinations remain credible and respected.
