More than 150 young entrepreneurs from across Trans Nzoia County’s 25 wards are poised to benefit from a comprehensive financial literacy training programme aimed at strengthening youth-led enterprises.
The capacity-building session, slated for tomorrow at the Kitale Museums, is a collaborative effort between the Nawiri Fund and Britam Insurance. It seeks to equip budding entrepreneurs with practical skills in financial planning, investment, risk management and business growth.
Governor George Natembeya, who hosted a Britam delegation at his Kitale office ahead of the exercise, underscored the importance of financial literacy in safeguarding public investments channeled toward youth empowerment.
He noted that while the Nawiri Fund has provided critical capital support to hundreds of young innovators, sound financial knowledge remains key in ensuring the long-term viability of their ventures.
“Our young people must understand not just how to access capital, but how to make it work for them. This training is central to helping them manage, grow and expand their enterprises,” Natembeya said.

Nawiri Fund Board Chairperson Martin Waliaula pledged to steer the programme to full success, pointing to the positive impact the Fund has already registered through recent disbursements. He said continuous training would help beneficiaries avoid common financial pitfalls and position their businesses for sustainable growth.
The meeting was also attended by County Secretary Truphosa Amere, Public Service Management Chief Officer Philip Kapten, Nawiri Fund board members, and Britam representatives from the national and Kitale offices.
The initiative marks a renewed push by the county to integrate financial education into its youth empowerment agenda, ensuring that beneficiaries not only access capital but also develop the financial discipline and skills required to thrive in an increasingly competitive business environment.
