KUPPET schedules NGC meeting to address JSS intern teachers’ confirmation case

The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has scheduled a crucial National Governing Council (NGC) meeting to be held in Nairobi on Friday, November 7, 2025 to address the Junior Secondary School intern teachers confirmation case.

According to a notice issued by the union’s Secretary General Akelo M. T. Misori, the session will bring together all National Governing Council members to deliberate on pressing matters affecting the teaching fraternity.

Reliable sources within the union, has revealed that the key focus will be on the confirmation of serving JSS intern teachers among other issues which including the union upcoming polls.

The issue of JSS intern teachers’ confirmation has recently sparked nationwide debate, with many educators expressing concerns over prolonged internship terms, limited job security, and delayed absorption into permanent and pensionable terms.

The upcoming NGC meeting is therefore expected to provide a platform for robust discussions and possible resolutions aimed at safeguarding the welfare and rights of teachers currently serving on internship contracts.

KUPPET officials underscored the union’s commitment to ensuring fairness and dignity for all educators. They emphasized that the confirmation of serving interns is not just a labour issue, but a matter of professional recognition and motivation.

The NGC, which is the union’s top decision-making organ between Annual Delegates Conferences, will also review other critical matters outlined in KUPPET’s 2025 strategic agenda — including teacher promotion policies, working conditions, and funding for professional development programs.

The venue for the meeting will be communicated in due course, but anticipation is already building among union members and education stakeholders who view this as a pivotal moment for Kenya’s teaching profession.
