Learners from Kipkelion East Constituency, in Kericho County received a financial relief after MP Joseph Cherorot issued bursary cheques amounting to Ksh5.06 million to support education in the area.
Speaking during the cheque issuance ceremony, Cherorot said the bursaries will greatly help orphans and children from humble backgrounds to continue with their studies without disruption.
“These bursaries will go a long way in ensuring that no child drops out of school due to lack of school fees,” he said.
The legislator further revealed that his office is also providing scholarships to bright but needy students from the constituency.
“We have identified several students who have performed well but come from poor families. They will benefit from full scholarships so that they can achieve their dreams,” he added.
The MP emphasized that keeping students in school is key to improving academic performance, warning that sending learners home for fees causes unnecessary stress.

“When students are sent home, it not only affects their learning but also causes depression to both students and parents,” he noted.
He said schools received funds based on their student population, assuring that his office would continue to support institutions both within and outside the constituency — including Kipkiam, Lesirwa, and Tuiyobei schools.
The MP criticized calls to abolish the bursary kitty, warning that such a move would disadvantage students from low-income families.
“Doing away with the bursary program would be unfair to many children who depend on this support to pursue their education,” he said.
The beneficiaries expressed gratitude, saying the financial support had rekindled their hope for a brighter future.
“We are very thankful to our MP. We promise to work hard and make him proud,” said one of the beneficiaries.
