There was jubilation at Kamariny Primary School as pupils, teachers, and parents celebrated Teacher Shokwei V. Barsulai’s international recognition for her “Don’t Touch Campaign” during World Teachers’ Day celebrations.
The award celebrates the campaign’s growth from a personal dream to a community-wide movement, acknowledging the support and trust Barsulai has received from her school and local community.
Speaking during the celebration, Barsulai expressed deep gratitude, saying the campaign holds a special place in her heart.
“The Don’t Touch Program is so dear to my heart because I believe in a future where every child is loved, safe, free, and protected,” she said.
Barsulai emphasised that the honour was not hers alone but a collective achievement shared with the community and the children she serves.
“This award is not just mine — it belongs to all of us, and most of all, to our children. They inspire me every day,” she said with emotion.
“From the valleys and hills of Turesia, through Kamariny, to the world stage — we made it together!”
The teacher also commended the school and the broader community for their unwavering support, noting that their encouragement has been instrumental in the success of her initiative.

“Indeed, service to humanity is service to God,” she added.
Barsulai’s “Don’t Touch Campaign” focuses on protecting children from abuse, while promoting awareness and creating safe environments for learners both at home and in school.
Her impact was recently recognised with a feature on Citizen TV’s “Mwanamke Bomba” (Woman of Substance) segment on September 26, 2025, where she shared her journey of faith, resilience, and community service.
The Kamariny school community described her recognition as a proud moment that has placed both the school and Elgeyo Marakwet County on the global map of education champions.
“Madam Barsulai has inspired us all — she’s proof that teachers can change the world, one child at a time,” said one of her colleagues during the event.
