Mulot Boy High School in Bomet County has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of a Form Two student on Monday.
The 16-year-old student is reported to have complained of a headache earlier in the day and was given painkillers before his condition worsened.
Confirming the incident, County Police Commander Edward Imbwaga said the student was pronounced dead upon arrival at Longisa County Referral Hospital.
“We received a report that a student had collapsed at Mulot Secondary School. He was rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, he was confirmed dead on arrival,” said Imbwaga. “Investigations are underway to establish the cause of death.”
School Principal David Kemei said the student had collapsed earlier but was attended to and given first aid.

“The student was assisted by our staff and appeared to have stabilized before the situation deteriorated later,” Kemei explained.
However, some school workers, who spoke to the media on condition of anonymity, alleged that the student did not receive timely medical attention despite having complained of a prolonged headache.
“He had been unwell for a while, but the response was slow,” said one worker. “Maybe he could have been saved if he was taken to hospital earlier.”
The body of the deceased has since been moved to the Longisa County Referral Hospital mortuary as police continue investigations.
The incident comes barely three months after another student, Brenda Chebet Ngetich, a Form Three at Saseta Girls Secondary School, died after a short illness.
The recurring cases have raised concerns among parents and education stakeholders over how schools handle medical emergencies.
“We are asking the Ministry of Education to ensure every school has a functional and responsive health unit,” said a concerned parent. “These tragic losses could be prevented with timely care.”
