Kisumu County Director of Education Madam Rosemary Birenge has issued a stern warning to students against the rising tide of drug abuse among teenagers, particularly high school learners.
Speaking at Achego Girls High School in Muhoroni during the official opening of newly constructed classrooms, Birenge urged students to remain vigilant and make independent choices despite peer pressure.

Addressing the girls, she expressed concern over the increasing use of substances such as opium, Kuber, and alcohol among youth, noting that curiosity often leads to dangerous habits. She cautioned that even a single step into drug use could spiral into long-term damage, urging the students to protect their health and future.

Birenge also reminded the learners to be considerate of their parents’ efforts, especially as the December holiday approaches. She encouraged them to be cooperative at home and avoid placing undue pressure on their guardians, who are working hard to support their education and well-being.
Madam Birenge’s visit to Achego Girls was part of her effort to promote safe learning environments and reinforce values of discipline and personal responsibility among students in Kisumu County.
