The Technical Vocational Education and Training, (TVET) trainees have been urged to continue horning their skills, embracing technology and pursuing excellence in order to positively transform the country.

A State department of TVETs official Josephine Kariuki said skills are a true reflection of the vibrant and transformative changes in shaping the future of the country.

Speaking at Greenhood Mall and Nkabune Technical Training Institute in Meru County during the Mount Kenya East Trade Fair, Kariuki said they have aligned TVET training to the demands of the modern labour market.

“The skills are catalyst for innovation, corroboration and industrial growth. Skills development is the cornerstone of a thriving economy. The skills you demonstrate here today could one day transform into industries, create jobs and improve your life. So take it seriously,” said Kariuki.

Mutembei said TVET ensures economic development and resilience in the country noting that they had invited the world to the competition in order to show it that TVETs works.

She said the skills exhibited in the competition are supposed to be carried to the industry and employment.

“The country transformation depends on skilled minds and hands. The future of this country is directly dependent on TVETs because it is the master key to any development. TVETs have got great minds that have the capacity to transform the country. TVETs give solutions to problems. This is a platform to showcase what you learn,” said Mutembei.

Kariuki further added that the TVETs have embraced creativity and problem solving abilities to produce innovators, creators and solution providers for the present and future industries.

“Be giving us your problems so that we can give you solutions to employment. No matter how good or bad the problem is, innovate, improve, input and make sure you have the best solution in the world. Let us think internationally and globally. Let us take it as an international hub,” noted Kariuki.

She said CBET initiative provides a practical platform where trainees can demonstrate mastery of real world skills, creativity and problem solving skills.

She said TVETs seeks to produce graduates who can translate skills into income.

“The winning teams have been awarded medals, certificates and a badge to attend the national competitions at State house. TVETs fair is a platform to showcase what we continue doing. Once we leave here let’s not stop. Let us think beyond the TVETs fair and internationally,” said Kariuki.

She challenged those who didn’t win to improve and be determined to create and innovate on areas that the judges highlighted about, using their failure as a force to push them forward.
