The Western Region TVETS Fair officially kicked off today at the Sigalagala National Polytechnic in Kakamega County, marking a significant event for technical education in the region.
Dr. Meshack Opwora, the Director of TVETs, who graced the opening ceremony as the chief guest, highlighted the important collaboration among 31 technical institutions from the Western Region that will be showcasing their skills and innovations.
With the event’s theme “TVETs for Sustainable Development: The Role of Technology and Innovation in Economic Resilience,’ various institutions from Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia and Vihiga Counties have come together to demonstrate their capabilities.
The event aims to foster competition among the best institutions, with the winner going on to represent the region on a national and global stage.
Sammy Antony Mabele, Chairperson of the Skills Committee for the Western Region, warmly welcomed all participating institutions and noted that the preparation for the 2025 fair is promisingly high, indicating a competitive spirit among the various participants.

“This year, we have clearly defined our areas of focus, encouraging participants to engage in friendly competition in key areas such as: Automation of Manufacturing Processes, Digitization, Affordable Housing, Accessible Healthcare, Food Security and Value Addition, Cross-Cutting Issues and Greening in TVETs,” Mabele said.
Mabele emphasized the importance of showcasing skills that align with labor market demands, reflecting the significant changes in recent times.
“We are particularly interested in skills development in the following areas: Restaurant Cooking and Bakery, Network Cabling, Masonry, Plumbing, Mechanical Engineering, ICT Software Solutions for Business, Electrical Installation, Electronics, Wall Tiling, Mechatronics, Hairdressing and Wellness,” he said
“We look forward to recognizing the outstanding achievements of the institutions tomorrow, celebrating their dedication to advancing technical education and equipping students with the skills necessary for today’s jobs.” He added.
