A fire broke out at Tulwet Boys High School in Bureti Constituency in Kericho County on the evening of Wednesday, September 24, consumed the school’s main building sending chills across the community and County.
In a widely circulated images and videos of the inferno showed the fire consuming one of the school’s main buildings, with locals forced to intervene to attempt to quell the flames.
However, by the time help arrived, the building was completely engulfed, leaving little to no room to salvage anything.
The cause of the fire remains unclear, although preliminary reports suggest this was another arson case by irate students.
No casualties were reported from the incident, as a majority of students were at a different location by the time the fire became uncontainable.
Notably, members of the local community turned out in large numbers inside the school to prevent potential damage to more property, as has been the case in neighbouring schools in recent days.

Over the past week, Bureti sub-county has been the most affected by cases of high school students going on the rampage, with at least four schools closed indefinitely due to student strikes.
A dormitory in Tengecha Boys High School was torched, but locals intervened to stop further damage. The incident prompted the school administration to release the students as a precautionary measure.
Hours earlier, Kabungut Boys High School in Bureti Sub-County, Bomet County, was closed indefinitely following a student strike sparked by the quantity and quality of food.
The strike occurred on Wednesday, prompting an emergency meeting by the school’s Board of Management, which decided it was best to send the boys home to quell further tensions. No damage was reported within the institution.
The most outrageous case occurred on Sunday, September 22, when students from Litein Boys High School completely destroyed the institution, causing damage worth millions the incident which has caused national shock, with education stakeholders calling for immediate solution to the unending wave of school fires.
