Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) teachers in Kakamega have called on the government to review the Social paper 2 which stated that the Junior schools remain domiciled in Comprehensive Primary schools.

Speaking during press briefing for Kakamega County teachers led by Kenedy Wiva, the teachers said that they have presented the petition for review of Social Paper  two of 2024 in parliament which they say undermines the autonomy of junior secondary schools and teachers.

The teachers maintained the if the trend continues they will lose their identity  and risks of professional growth

Wiva further pointed out that governance and accountability under primary school heads undermines the distinct academic psychosocial needs of JSS learners and teachers

The social paper 2 anchored on the recommendations of the presidential working party has far reached implications on the implementation of Competency Based Education (CBE) and more so the future of JSS teachers

They urged the government to facilitate structured discussions on the petition with emphasis on JSS concerns with other willing Members of Parliament.
