Narok politicians urge Maasai Community to support women’s university education

Narok Governor Patrick ole Ntutu

A section of political leaders from Narok County have called on the Maasai community to encourage and support their wives and daughters to pursue university education, saying this would bring transformative and lasting change to society.

Speaking during a prayer and thanksgiving ceremony for Veronica Ntutu ,a spouse of Antony Ole Ntutu , who recently attained a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management, the leaders hailed the achievement as a milestone and an example of how education can uplift families and communities.

Narok Governor Patrick ole Ntutu praised Veronica’s dedication and reaffirmed his administration’s support for girl-child education.

“Education provides a level playing field to all and remains the best game-changer in society today. As a county, we are determined to break barriers so that no woman or girl is left behind in education. We must support our wives, sisters and daughters to reach their full potential,” said Governor Ntutu.

He added: “When we educate our women, we secure our future. Women are the backbone of our homes and communities, and by equipping them with knowledge, we ensure a stronger and more prosperous Narok. This is not just about one family or one student; it is about lifting the whole community.”

The county boss emphasized that they are ready as leaders to partner with schools, religious institutions and civil society to run mentorship and scholarship programs for the girls.

“We will also push for stronger laws to protect them from early marriages and gender-based violence.”

On his part, Narok South MP Kitilai Ntutu also urged the Maasai community to change its perception of women’s education, stressing that more educated women means stronger families and better development outcomes.

“We must embrace the idea that educating a woman educates a whole community. Men should not fear but support their wives to pursue higher learning because the benefits come back to the family and the county. When we empower women through education, we empower the entire society.” He said.

The legislator said there is need for the community to move away from outdated practices that limit the girls.

“The days of thinking a woman’s place is only at home are long gone. Our mothers, sisters and wives can be professionals, leaders, and innovators if we give them the chance.” Said MP Ntutu.

He also said that: “If we can collectively break down the barriers of FGM, early marriage and teenage pregnancy, then Narok will produce more women doctors, engineers, professors and leaders. That is the Narok we all want to see.”
